Genetic Predispositions of Tendons

TENDON INJURIES are the MOST COMMON injuries in horses.

Statistics estimate that 30% of racehorses and 50% of sport horses in Europe have mostly experienced TENDON INJURIES in the Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon (SDFT) and the Deep Digital Flexor Tendon (DDFT) which cause:

  • Lameness, swelling, PAIN, high body temperature, tendon rapture.
  • EXCLUSION from training / racing, recreation – up to 12 MONTHS.
  • Higher COSTS and LOST of benefits – prolonged medical care and maintenance.
  • Increase of RE-INJURY risk and lowering the horse’s CONDITION.

The best way to deal with tendon injuries is to make every effort to prevent them, or if possible, limit the degree of damage that occurs” say experienced equine trainers and veterinarians.
